Splitcoaststampers Is Featuring My Tie-Dye Tutorial Today!

I am having so much fun with this technique. When the powers that be over on Splitcoaststampers asked to feature this technique along with  my video, I jumped at the chance. If you want to head on over to Splitcoaststampers, click HERE. While there, you will be able to see a step by step tutorial, along with a video. You will also have a chance to upload your tie-dye samples to the special gallery for this technique. Unless noted, all products Stampin' Up!

The card above looks quite a bit softer and a bit more elegant than my original tie-dye backgrounds on this blog post did. I used Smokey Slate and Powdered Pink inkpads for this project, along with the Celebration Time Bundle and the 1/2" Finely Woven Ribbon in Powdered Pink.

There are so many ways to use this technique. Click here to see a very patriotic card using this method.

Do you have a Stampin' Up! demonstrator? If not, I would love to be your source for these amazing products and hopefully give you  a good dose of inspiration from time to time. This is not just a hobby for me, it is a passion! Click on the header above to find out more info on how you can earn free stamp sets just by shopping with me. Earn Frequent Buyer Rewards!

Please use the hostess code shown in the top right corner when ordering online, unless your order will total $150 before shipping & tax. At that point, you become your own hostess and get all the rewards!

As always, let me know if you have any questions about the project or the products used. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Learn To Experiment/Play With Abandon

I watched this you tube video earlier this morning where the artist was showing painting watercolor flowers that were "looser". She painted a 3 basic flower shapes using yellow and red, then added stems to each in a green color. She then spritzed the whole thing with water and turned the painting upside down so the color would flow. Once she did that, she started adding red and pink to the flowers and deepened the stems before adding in her background color. All in all, a very cool effect. I have tried the same thing with stamped flowers using Crushed Curry and simple stems drawn with an Old Olive watercolor pencil. All products Stampin' Up!

I quite liked the effect, so I continued by adding Rich Razzleberry & Melon Mambo with watercolor pencils and softening the color with an Aqua Painter. I kept playing and experimenting with the look until I got what I wanted. I used watered down Bermuda Bay ink for the background color.

Did I love it at first? No. However, I realized long ago that it is JUST PAPER and I can throw it away if I end up hating the project when finished. The thing I want to stress here is that if you are wanting something more from your stamping and art, you need to experiment and play. That is the only way you will find out what you love and all of the endless possibilities there are with the tools available.

I created the gold "swish" behind the sentiment and geometric detail by swiping Embossing Paste using my finger directly on to the watercolor paper. I immediately covered it with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder and carefully heated it with my heat tool. The result is a stunning 3-dimensional strip of gold. The geometric piece was cut using the die cut that is in the Oh So Eclectic Bundle. The flower stamps are also from that bundle, but the sentiment is from the Wood Words stamp set.

Pals June Blog Hop: Pick A "B"

Welcome to the June 2017 Pals Blog Hop. Thank you so much for joining us today. This month’s theme, Pick a “B”, features projects inspired by Babies, Birthdays and Brides to name few. You may just get a glimpse of new catalog products while you hop with us today.
Whether you’re just starting the hop, or have come from a previous Pal’s blog, you’ll find the line-up toward the end of my post to help you move along.
The last few weeks have been a bit hectic. I adore going over the top at times with my cards, but for this hop, I really needed something that only looked like I put a great deal of work in to it. Happy Celebrations stamp set with coordinating embossing folders was just what I needed!

The stamp set has some great artistic elements, which makes this set very versatile.

The embossing folders below deboss, making it have a letterpress type appearance. Visit this link to see a video showcasing a variety of ways to use this exciting bundle.

I used both Blushing Bride and Powder Pink inks to create this card. This is a perfect way to achieve a watercolor look in a matter of minutes.

Thanks again for hopping with the Stampin' Pretty pals today. Take a minute to mark your calendar for our next hop on July 12th. We're having a pattern party! Now hop along using the Blog Hop line-up below. See you on July 12th for the next Pals Blog Hop!

Feeling Patriotic #tiedyeflag (video tutorial)

I am having a blast with the tie-dye technique I showcased here on May 27th. In case you haven't seen that video yet, I would watch it before you watch the video below. It gives a little more information on the technique.

I love how the card above turned out! It is quite easy to do. The product list is included in the video below.

Last year around this time, I posted the flag card below that I came up with using the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits. It was one of my "woke up in the morning with the idea" card. This happens to me quite often! To date, it is my most pinned card ever on Pinterest. It is still one of my favorites.

Have you seen the new catalog yet? Click on the link below to see tons of new items with amazing samples. Stampin' Up! has definitely risen to a new level creatively this year.

When The Unthinkable Happens (special post)

Sympathy cards are always hard to make, but especially when it is due to the loss of a child.  As stampers and card makers, we are giving something of ourselves other than just paper when we give someone a handmade card. We are giving from the heart. Never is that more true than when we send a sympathy card. Behind each application of ink and stamped image, are thoughts and prayers for that individual or family.

The background on the card below is not watercolor, but an updated version of an old technique which I will be posting a video tutorial on very soon. I think the new Lemon Lime Twist color on this card looks very soft and lovely. The flower is from the Remarkable You stamp set and the sentiment is from the Weather Together stamp set. All items available from my online store.

**Update: Visit my blog post HERE for the tutorial on how I created this background with a technique called "not your Mother's shaving cream technique".

I am posting the pictures below with the parent's permission. The young couple who lost little Charlie at 5 weeks old (on Memorial Day) are well known to me and the people I work with in the busy tourist town of Branson, MO. This is a good family and losing their little boy has broken their hearts and set them back financially.  The business I work at is doing a fundraiser to raise money to put their little boy to rest and help them recover a bit financially from missed work, etc. I have decided I want to help them personally.

If you had planned on ordering online from me, please do so by Sunday evening if at all possible. I will be donating any commission I make from sales this weekend to this couple to help pay for funeral services. They must have money by Tuesday in order to lay him to rest. If you were not planning on ordering, but would want to donate even a $1, please click here to visit their Go Fund Me page. I know they would appreciate anything, even a very small donation.
